DAVE JONES QUINTET : 60th Birthday Tour
60th Birthday celebration for the Welsh pianist/composer, bringing together two of his jazz projects: His Quintet’s recent set of arrangements of Kenny Garrett’s Music (by Andy Hague), and Dave’s new set of arrangements for Quintet of his own compositions (originally for Quartet). The Quintet played to a full house at Pizza Express Jazz Club (Soho) in Jan 2023 when recording their new live album, which has now been pressed for the 2nd time. Besides composing for his jazz ensembles, Dave also composes music for TV and film, and has had many placements of tracks in productions in the US, Europe, Japan, Australia, and the UK, including ‘The Big Bang Theory’, the NFL American Football Network, the US Open Golf Tournament, ‘The Today Show’, French Films’ showing of ‘Girlfriends’ Getaway 2’, ‘University Challenge’, ‘Location, Location, Location’, and ‘Alan Carr’s Adventures with Agatha Christie’.

Ben Waghorn (saxes and flutes for NYJO, The Electric Lady Big Band, Tommy Chase, Slowly Rolling Camera, Keith Tippett, Goldfrapp, Kasabian and Portishead), Ashley John Long (bass for John Law, Brandon Allen, Geoff Eales, Alan Barnes, Scott Hamilton, Simon Spillett, London Philharmonic Orchestra, and many others), Andy Hague (trumpeter for Portishead, Mike Westbrook’s ‘Uncommon Orchestra’, his own bands amongst numerous others, and Be-Bop Club in Bristol regular), Ryan Thrupp (drums – one of Bristol’s emerging talents in jazz and other projects across various genres, including N’Famady Kouyate with whom he played at the Glastonbury Festival in 2023).

“Scintillating horn interplay that mixed fire with subtlety, qualities that Jones also brought to a sparkling piano solo” (JazzMann, live review 2023)

“Solid and deep-delving swing, especially when the band switched straight into fifth gear, as on ‘Chief Blackwater’ “ (Jazz Journal, live review 2023).

“[Dave] Jones is positively fizzing here … brings a Tyner-esque intensity to this highly energetic performance. “ (JazzMann)
“… a blistering workout from Waghorn … fluent and hair-raising soloing from Waghorn” (London Jazz News)

“Hague in particular is a memorable soloist, technically adept, melodic and muscular, and funky or pretty as required.” (All About Jazz)

“Long is a virtuoso technician and a stunning bass soloist” (JazzMann)
