The acclaimed American Trombone player Steve Swell has reconvened this superb quartet with leading British Saxophonist Paul Dunmall, rising star bassist James Owston and brilliant drummer Mark Sanders for a short UK tour, playing London, Bristol and Birmingham. The band recorded the excellent album 'So Perhaps' (FMR Records) on Steve's last visit to the UK in 2019.

STEVE SWELL has a formidable reputation, having recorded with many of the leading names in free jazz including Anthony Braxton, Cecil Taylor, William Parker, Tim Berne and Joey Baron. Having started his career in 1975 playing in the bands of Buddy Rich and Lionel Hampton he then studied with Roswell Rudd, Grachan Moncur III and Jimmy Knepper and played the Broadway shows in the 1980's before becoming one of the most respected players on the New York free jazz scene. He has won many awards including the DownBeat Critics Poll for the Trombone category from 2010-2023.

PAUL DUNMALL - recognised as one of the most talented reed players on the International jazz/improvised music scene. Whether playing in small groups or big bands, his musical sensitivity and imagination combined with a powerful sound drenched in both Jazz and Folk traditions make him one of the most distinctive improvisers playing today.
He has performed with Alice Coltrane, Rashied Ali, Hamid Drake, Andrew Cyrille, Henry Grimes, Steve Swell, Elton Dean, Evan Parker, Alan Skidmore, Keith Tippett, Mujician, Johnny Guitar Watson, Danny Thompson, LJCO, Chris Corsano, Paul Rogers, Andy Sheppard, Spirit Level and many more...

JAMES OWSTON is one of the rising stars of the British Jazz scene, a graduate of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and a finalist in the BBC Young Musicians Award 2018. He currently plays and records with artists such as Clark Tracey, Paul Dunmall, Alex Clarke, Xhosa Cole and many more. He is rapidly making a name for himself in high level jazz circles, taking on a leadership role with his own touring quartet and trio.

MARK SANDERS - Mark has played with many renowned musicians from around the world including Evan Parker, Peter Brotzmann, Derek Bailey, Robert Mitchell, Roswell Rudd, Keith Tippett, Paul Dunmall, Trevor Watts, Tim Berne, Liam Noble, Gail Brand, Martin Speake, Paul Rogers, Henry Grimes,Okkyung Lee, Barry Guy, Myra Melford, Otomo Yoshihide, Luc Ex, Ken Vandermark, Sidsel Endresen and Jean Francois Pauvrois, in duo and quartets with Wadada Leo Smith and trios with Charles Gayle with Sirone and William Parker.
